Kaduna United suffered their biggest defeat in the Caf Champions League when they lost 1 – 4 to GD Interclube of Angola on Sunday.
Joao Capuco proved to be a handful all afternoon to Kaduna United’s right-back, Victor Ezema, who struggled to cope with the pace and trickery of the Angolan forward.
Capuco, Francisco and Baros scored for Interclube while Jude Aneke got Kaduna United’s consolation.
Kaduna United were harried in the early minutes of the game by the Angolans, who created decent scoring chances inside five minutes.
On three minutes, Capuco’s lob over Kaduna United keeper, Richard Ochayi nearly resulted in a goal but defender Isiaka Oladuntoye covered quickly to clear off the line.
And on nine minutes, Capuco put Interclube ahead via a counter-attack. The pacy striker took advantage of poor defensive play by Kaduna United to slot the ball past an on-rushing Ochayi.
Oladuntoye had an afternoon to forget, as he was called up often to save United from the attacking forays of Interclube.
On the quarter of an hour, Oladuntoye cleared with a header off the line after Daniel’s shot looked goal-bound to keep Kaduna United in the game.
The Angolans kept prodding the defence of Kaduna United.
Just on the stroke of half time, Paty played Capuco into the box who got behind Oladuntoye before squaring the ball low into Francisco’s path to smash into the net for the home side’s second goal.
The game slipped off the hands of Kaduna United ten minutes into the restart when Baros scored the third for Interclube after holding off Oladuntoye to put the ball past Ochayi.
However, the woes of Kaduna United were compounded when Ezema saw red for a rough challenge on Baros just about 20 minutes left to play.
Interclube got their fourth goal on 75 minutes when Baros rounded Ochayi after a through pass from Daniel but Linus Adams’ block was not enough as Capuco headed home Interclube’s fourth goal of the afternoon and his second.
Kaduna United suddenly sprung to life in the closing minutes and Aneke got a consolation in the 87th minute from Benjamin Ishaya’s pass.
Aneke should have got his second of the game when he wasted a glorious chance to score from seven yards after Siman Yusuf played him free in the box on the death.
Interclube have secured their passage into the semis with ten points from Group A while Kaduna United remain on five points.
