Midfielder Otekpa Eneji has expressed disappointment at failing to play a huge part in guiding Enyimba into the 2011 Caf Champions League final.
Enyimba missed reaching a third final after losing to Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco on 0-1 aggregate in the semifinals.
Eneji, 22, said he and his colleagues will have themselves to blame for failing to score in Aba on Sunday in a game that ended goalless.
"We had enough chances to win this game and qualify for the final. Instead we didn't take our chances and now we have paid for that by allowing Wydad go ahead to play in the final.
"I feel unhappy that we have disappointed our fans and ourselves because we had high hopes of playing in the final," said the former Lobi Stars' man.
The two-time African champions were on a run of 11 unbeaten games in the Caf Champions League before Wydad punctured that streak a fortnight ago in Casablanca with a goal win.
The Peoples Elephant will now turn their focus to their remaining games in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).
Eneji hopes they can clamber their way into one of the club continental spots via the league.
"The league is now our only chance to return to the continent. It is going to be a difficult task but we will give it a go and hope we get favourable results," said Eneji.
Enyimba were back-to-back champions of the Caf Champions League in 2003 and 2004.
