Nigerian champions, Enyimba will bid to make a bold step to winning an African treble when they confront Wydad Athletic Club in the first leg of the Caf Champions League this Saturday.
The match billed to hold at the Complexe Mohamed V in Casablanca will be the 12th game of the Peoples Elephant in this year’s edition of the African premier club competition.
Okey Emordi’s men go into this game on the back of losing in the Federation Cup final last Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos to southeast rivals, Heartland.
But the six-time Nigeria Premier League (NPL) winners are unbeaten in 11 games in the Caf Champions League and Emordi believes that his men will continue with that streak in Morocco this Saturday.
“We want to continue our unbeaten run in the competition,” he began in a telephone interview with SuperSport.com. “Enyimba have shown in this competition this year that we are capable of winning anywhere. Yes we lost in the FA Cup (Federation Cup) final but that will not affect our performance in Casablanca.
“And remember this is not our first time playing in Casablanca. We played Raja in the group stage over two legs and we didn't lose," the coach said.
Enyimba played goalless with Raja in Casablanca before winning 2-0 in Aba.
The Peoples Elephant have faced Saint Michel d'Ouenzé (Congo), US Bitam (Gabon), Al Ittihad (Libya), Al Hilal (Sudan), Coton Sport de Garoua (Cameroon) and Raja Casablanca (Morocco) in the run-up to Saturday's first leg semis.
Wydad are also familiar with Nigerian opponents having beaten Kano Pillars on 2-0 aggregate in the first round of the competition's qualifying round.
The other semifinal game is between Al-Hilal of Sudan and Esperance ST of Tunisia.
