Bayelsa Utd star, Ameh is dead

The Nigerian football family was thrown into mourning on Monday when SuperSport.com confirmed that Bayelsa United striker, Aruwa Ameh died in hospital.

The player died in an undisclosed hospital in Kaduna after being on admission for six days since last Wednesday.

A former teammate of Ameh at Kaduna United, Emmanuel Bivan revealed to SuperSport.com that the Bayelsa United man had sudden taken ill while training at an open playground in Ungwan Rimi area of Kaduna last Wednesday.

Bivan told SuperSport.com that Ameh pulled out of the training session complaining about a pain in one of his arms.

“You know that we are in the off-season in the premier league and the lower division too are on break. So he came to Kaduna for the break and while training in Ungwan Rimi last week Wednesday he started complaining of pains in one of his hands and left for home.

“Later he was taken to a hospital in Kaduna here on same Wednesday and before I knew it I was informed that he is paralysed. And by this (Monday) evening I was called and told that Aruwa Ameh is dead.

"His death is a shock to me because he was such a talented player and I am pained by this loss,” the Kaduna United midfielder said over the telephone from Kaduna.

Late Ameh was part of the Bayelsa United squad that won the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) title in the 2008/2009 season before the side were relegated the next season to the lower division known as the Nigeria National League (NNL).
