3SC release Gbolahan Salami

Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side, 3SC have parted ways with Under23 Eagles’ striker, Gbolahan Salami.

An official of the club, who spoke to SuperSport.com in an anonymous capacity, revealed that Salami was released on Wednesday to continue his career elsewhere.

The reasons for laying off the former Sunshine Stars’ attacking winger are based on his record of misconduct and insubordination in last season’s campaign.

“Yes I can confirm to you that Gbolahan Salami has been released by 3SC,” began the club official. “The decision was taken yesterday (Wednesday) to allow the player go and seek contract at another club since his services are no longer required at 3SC.

“There is no doubt that Gbolahan is a fine player but his failure to balance it with his behaviour could ruin his career. Last season he was one of the players that had a high record of indiscipline behaviour on and off the pitch as well as cases of insubordination. So we don’t want to keep him because we feel he might incite other players against the club,” SuperSport.com was told.

In September this year, the 20-year-old striker had a three-year deal worth R2.5 million with South African club, Mamelodi Sundowns terminated.

Salami featured only in pre-season games for the Brazilians and attempts to farm him out on loan to another South African side, Maritzburg United fell through.

But the striker has been recently linked with NPL side, Warri Wolves.
