NPL matchday one wrap

It was a successful outing for our predictor on the opening day as he got eight results correctly including four exact results out of nine games.

On the first day of the season just 10 goals were recorded in nine games with three games ending in goalless draws, as champions, Dolphins got off their title defence to a winning start.

Dolphins 1 – 0 Sunshine Stars
New man, Adamu Mohammed came on as a substitute to nod home the winner for title holders, Dolphins five minutes from time. The champions start off the season in fourth place while last season's runners-up, Sunshine Stars are 16th after games on the opening day.

Enugu Rangers 0 – 0 Warri Wolves
Goalkeeper Ambrose Vanzekin and Ike ThankGod put up solid performances to stop Okey Emordi's men from picking all points. The result reflects the same scoreline in this corresponding fixture last season.

Kwara United 0 – 0 Ocean Boys
Ocean Boys have started the season on a bright note. But coach Samson Unuanel will have to thank goalkeeper Ospino Egbe for his heroics within the stick against Kwara United in this tie.

Both teams find themselves in the top half after this Day One goalless draw.

Wikki Tourists 1 – 0 Heartland
Heartland's woes on the road continue after Victor Yakubu's 24th minute goal sealed a happy return for Ladan Bosso as head coach of Wikki.

Heartland are in 14th position after matchday one while Wikki sit in sixth.

Enyimba 2 – 0 ABS FC
Playmaker Josiah Maduabuchi scored the first goal of the season when he put former champions, Enyimba in front in the 1st minute of this game.

New boy, Nzube Anazemba made the points safe for the Peoples Elephant with 10 minutes to time, as new head coach, Austin Eguavoen watched from the stands with first-team coach, Abdu Maikaba taking charge in the interim. Enyimba start the season on top of the log.

Kano Pillars 1 – 0 Niger Tornadoes
In this northern derby, Kano Pillars had to wait till after the hour-mark before Nazifi Ammani scored what turned out to be the winner.

Ammani ensured that Baba Ganaru's men are in the top five after Week 1 while Tornadoes in the lower half of the standings.

3SC 2 – 1 Sharks
Festus Allen got a second half scare on his debut as 3SC head coach when attacking winger Bright Ejike scored inside two minutes of the restart for the visiting Blue Angels.

But new signing from Ijebu United, Talabi Joshua Olamakinde's screamer on 72minutes caught goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa off guard to draw 3SC level.

Substitute Osagona Ighodaro, another new boy, punished the Blue Angels on 84 minutes to hand Allen's men all points to put them third on the log.

Rising Stars 0 – 0 Akwa United
Predictably Akwa United earned themselves a point at fellow newly-promoted side, Rising Stars.

The Promise Keepers are seventh on the log while Rising Stars are in 11th position.

Gombe United 2 – 0 Lobi Stars
Sanusi Sani became the first player to score two goals this season after grabbing a goal in each half to give the Desert Scorpions a deserved win.

Lobi Stars' striker Tony Okpotu became the first player to be sent off this season after two bookable offences from centre referee, Jelil Ogunmuyiwa from Lagos.
