Djoliba force Sunshine Stars to draw

Sunshine Stars were forced to a 1 – 1 draw in Bamako, Mali by Djoliba AC in the first leg, round of 16 of the Caf Champions Cup on Saturday.

Striker Izu Azuka shot the Nigerian side in front inside the first minute of the game.

Azukam who joined Sunshine Stars this season, blasted his effort shot past Djoliba AC goalkeeper, Aly Yirango to give the Akure Gunners a goal lead.

The Malian side lay siege after siege to Sunshine Stars’ goal area but goalkeeper Moses Ocheje was at his best to stifle their efforts to ensure that the first 45 minutes ended one-nil in favour of the away team.

The second half started with Djoliba AC taking off from where they stopped in the first half by mounting endless attacks on the Nigerian side.

Sunshine Stars’ back line led by Godfrey Oboabona held on until the 72nd minute when Djoliba AC substitute, Ibourahima Sidibe shot from the edge of the box to beat Moses Ocheje for the equaliser.

The Nigerians take a huge advantage of an away goal into the second leg, which comes up in a fortnight in Ijebu-Ode.
