The Predictor’s Week 23 preview

The Predictor
Saturday, April 28, 2012
Kwara United v Wikki Tourists (Ilorin Township Stadium)
Wikki Tourists won the reverse game this season 1 – 0 but in the past nine years have only avoided defeat just once in seven visits to Kwara United. This season the Tourists have mustered just a point on the road in nine games and do not look like a side that will threaten the Afonja Warriors after a division broke out in their camp in Bauchi this week.

It would not be a high-scoring game but Kwara United will just nick this one and keep themselves in a safety position from the relegation.
Our prediction: 2 – 1

Sharks v Ocean Boys (Sharks FC Stadium)
Ocean Boys have always been the bogey team of Sharks in the NPL until back-to-back wins from the Blue Angels in 2010 and 2011 in Port Harcourt compared to six wins by the Divine Warriors. Already, Sharks dropped all points in Yenagoa in the first meeting to Emmanuel Enize's double.

However, Sharks will take all the points from this south-south derby as it is difficult to see who will score the goals for Ocean Boys, who have struggled to score just once on the road and conceded 20.
Our prediction: 1 – 0

Rising Stars v Kaduna United (Kayode Oluyemi Stadium)
Kaduna United took the first three with a 1 – 0 win in the reverse game. Rising Stars’ head coach, Sunday Erelesusi is confident of winning this tie as he believes his side can still beat the drop after remaining bottom. “We cannot afford to drop points now at home. This is a game (against Kaduna United) that we must win and we will do our best to beat them,” he told SuperSport.com.

Rising Stars have won their last two home games against Enyimba and Gombe United and will take massive confidence from the fact that Kaduna United are one of two sides in the top flight yet to pick a point on the road this term – Jigawa Golden Stars being the other. Erelesusi’s men are good for the points.
Our prediction: 2 – 0

3SC v Kano Pillars (Lekan Salami Stadium)
It ended three-nil in favour of Kano Pillars in the first meeting this season. But in this same fixture last season, 3SC won 2 – 1 in Ibadan. The title credentials of Kano Pillars will come under a huge test at 3SC, where they have avoided defeat just once in their past four visits since March 2004.

3SC have won their last five home games including a 1 – 0 win over six-time champions, Enyimba. Kano Pillars will be up for a big battle in Ibadan as it is expected that the Oluyole Warriors will win this game.
Our prediction: 1 – 0

Sunday, April 29, 2012
Dolphins v Enyimba (Liberation Stadium)
‘Super Naija Sunday’ takes centre stage with third-placed Enyimba and champions, Dolphins in fourth position go up head-to-head. Dolphins lost the reverse game one-nil in March this year but go into this tie with a 2 – 1 win in mind in this same fixture last season.

The People’s Elephants' best result in Port Harcourt against Dolphins remain a three-nil win in June 2003. Enyimba have surprisingly lost their last two games on the road at struggling sides, 3SC and Rising Stars. Dolphins have enough firepower to win this since they are no longer on the continent and could move into pole position in the league table depending on the outcome of Kano Pillars’ game in Ibadan.
Our prediction: 1 – 0

Lobi Stars v Jigawa Golden Stars (Emmanuel Atongo Stadium)
The Golden Stars have been poor on the road so far this season without a point and stand little or no chance of usurping Lobi Stars from taking the points in this tie. Lobi Stars have won the last two games of this corresponding fixture.

Lobi Stars have enough personnel in David Tyavkase, Moses Bunde, Bassey Ezekiel and Moses Orkuma among others to get the job done in Katsina-Ala this Sunday.
Our prediction: 2 – 0

Enugu Rangers v Gombe United (Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium; live on SSL)
Both teams have already met 16 times already including the reverse game of this season that ended 2 – 1 in Gombe United’s favour. This 17th clash since 2003 is live on SuperSport Select from 4pm Nigerian time (5pm CAT) this Sunday.

Gombe United will have their hands full, as Okey Emordi’s men will seek to topple Kano Pillars at the top. Expect goals in this game, which is expected to be end-to-end stuff but Rangers will win as they are yet to drop points in Enugu against Gombe United since 2005.
Our prediction: 3 – 1

*The Predictor was able to pick out FOUR correct scores including ONE exact result out of the ten games from Matchday 22.
