Solomon Ogbeide of Akwa United and Gomo Onduku (pictured) of Sharks have been named the best Manager and Player respectively for the April edition of the Naija Premier League Bloggers Award.
After painstakingly comparing and contrasting a tight contest in the month of April, organisers of the monthly award settled for Ogbeide and Onduku following their feat in the Nigerian top flight last month.
Ogbeide beat his Dolphins’ counterpart, Stanley Eguma to the April award after both men were neck in neck until Wikki Tourists put a dent on the champions' run with a 2-1 win in Bauchi on April 18.
Ogbeide's Akwa United were the only side to finish unbeaten in the month of April.
The Promise Keepers took 11 points after three wins and two draws including avoiding defeats against top clubs like Enyimba, Enugu Rangers, Warri Wolves and Sunshine Stars.
Okey Emordi of Enugu Rangers and Baba Ganaru of Kano Pillars finished in third and fourth positions respectively in the manager’s pecking order for April.
However, Onduku stood out for his team in the player’s category with three superb goals and two assists in April.
He is only tied on same number of goals by Mutiu Adegoke (3SC), Alaba Johnson (Wikki Tourists) and David Tyavkase (Lobi Stars).
But the quality of Onduku’s goals especially against Heartland and ABS FC puts him miles ahead of other contenders with 3SC’s Adegoke following in second on the back of his curling free kick against Enyimba and two goals from the spot against former champions, Kano Pillars.
Last week, organisers of the monthly award presented a plaque to the ABS head coach, Kabir Sulaiman Dogo, in Ilorin for winning the Manager's award for the March edition though his assistant, Mashood Adebayo, stood in for him as he was away on a coaching course in Abuja.
Winners of the April edition of the monthly award will be presented with plaques at a later date in May.
