NPL Week 26 wrap


The top spot remains unchanged in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) after Matchday 26 games at the weekend. Enugu Rangers in spite of the loss in Kano are ahead of the chasing pack by three points. Kano Pillars, Enyimba and Dolphins complete the top four.

Jigawa Golden Stars, Ocean Boys, Niger Tornadoes and Rising Stars are in the bottom four though they all have outstanding games to play.


Sharks 5 – 2 Gombe United
This game produced the highest scoreline so far this term. Ousmane Pape Sane, Fortune Chukwudi, Bright Ejike and a couple from Victor Ezeji made sure Sharks put five past Gombe United. Two goals via free-kicks from Sani Gidado helped by the butter fingers of Super Eagles' goalkeeper, Okiemute Odah ensured Gombe United got something to cheer.

Both teams are on 36 points but Sharks are in seventh position while Gombe United are a position behind.


ABS FC 2 – 0 Akwa United
ABS FC are now three points above the drop after a 2-0 win over Akwa United. Two goals in the last 20 minutes from Abdulrahman Bashir and Stone Evbuomwan broke the resistance of Solomon Ogbeide's team in Ilorin. Despite the loss, Akwa United remain in the top five with 36 points.


Kano Pillars 2 – 0 Enugu Rangers
Rabiu Ali missed from the spot early in the game before two second half goals from Gambo Mohammed and Mannir Ubale undid table-toppers Rangers. Kano Pillars are now second in the standings on 40 points and three behind the Flying Antelopes.


Kaduna United 2 – 1 Kwara United
Ikechukwu Okorie opened score from the spot for Kaduna United and Stanley Dimgba put Kwara United on level terms to put the score 1-1 at the break. Okorie again scored from the spot to put Kaduna United on 33 points and two places off the top half of the table. Kwara United are now 13th in the standings with 31 points.


Lobi Stars 2 – 0 Wikki Tourists
As expected Lobi Stars defeated the Tourists in a game that ended 2-0. Defender Bassey Ezekiel and Moses Bunde got the goals as Lobi are now in the top six with 36 points and Wikki are in ninth with 35 points.


Ocean Boys 0 – 0 Enyimba
Six-time champions, Enyimba continue their three-year dominance over Ocean Boys by avoiding defeat in Yenagoa. It ended goalless at the Samson Siasia Stadium and the result leaves the People's Elephants in third place and three points behind leaders, Rangers. Ocean Boys continue their life in the bottom four.


Dolphins 0 – 0 3SC
It was belaboured performance from the champions, Dolphins against 10-man 3SC who had Gabriel Adikwu sent off. 3SC were close to upsetting Dolphins as they had the chance to score on a few occasions with new boy, Moses Ogaga nearly scoring on his debut. The draw takes 3SC to 33 points and in 11th position while Dolphins are fourth on 39 points.
