Sunshine Stars' head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote (pictured) is not losing sleep over reports that Al Ahly striker, Emad Meteb could be available when both sides meet in two weeks.
Al Ahly and Sunshine Stars
played out a 3-3 draw at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode in the Caf
Champions League semifinal first leg on Saturday.
Ogunbote is confident that
his side can give the Cairo Red Devils a run for a final place when both sides
clash in the return leg on the weekend of October 19, 20 and 21 in spite of
Meteb's likely presence.
"Everyone seems to
forget that Sunshine Stars are greenhorns in the Caf Champions League. Yes Al
Ahly were always the favourites (to win this tie) but we've showed that we
won't just lay back and be beaten. Whether Meteb returns or not, I'll tell you
we are not scared of them.
"We also played
without our captain (Godfrey Oboabona) on Saturday and hopefully we will have
him back for the second leg in Cairo. For us to come back from two goals down
and also from a losing position at 2-3 late in the game, gives us a lot of hope
going to the game in Cairo," said the Sunshine Stars' coach.
Al Ahly striker, Meteb has
reportedly returned to training with his team on Monday.
The 29-year-old striker
has recovered from having his kidney stones removed and could play in the
reverse game against Sunshine Stars.
"I have completely
recovered after my kidney stones problem so I am fit to join the team's regular
training. I hope to take part in the match against Sunshine but it's the
coach's decision," Meteb told his club's official website.
