A
97th minute goal from Lazarus Chukwu gave Warri Wolves three points against
Dolphins at the Warri City Stadium on Sunday but Dolphins felt hard done by the
referee at the end of the game.
Dolphins
were not happy because the 4th official’s board showed five minutes and players
confronted the referee at the end of the game.
Dolphins’
manager, Stanley Eguma said they played for more than the time the 4th official
signaled as added time in the 2nd half, with the goal coming in the 7th minute
of added time when the official showed there would be five added minutes.
However,
in added time, Dolphins goalkeeper, Austin Brown fell injured and had to be
treated on the pitch while another Dolphins player, Emeka Atuloma also fell
injured in added time.
Dolphins
also made a substitution in added time of the game.
In
the 25th minute, Dolphins felt they were denied a penalty and expulsion of
Warri Wolves central defender, Bright Akpojuvwewo.
In
the face of a challenge from Dolphins striker, Fred Okwara, Bright handled the
ball in the box, the lost it and with Okwara bearing in on goal, he hacked him
down from behind but the referee allowed play to go on.
In
the 32nd minute, Efebo Oghenekaro headed home as the ball rebounded from the
cross bar but Dolphins equalized in the 83rd minute through Chigozie Ihunda who
connected a low cross from Emem Eduok.
At
the end of the game, players of Dolphins gathered around the referee probably
angry with the fact that the game lasted longer than normal and this action
angered some fans of Warri Wolves who rushed into the pitch leading to an
altercation between fans and players of Dolphins.
In
the rowdiness of the moment, none of the coaches or players were available to
speak on the game.
