Two-time
African champions, Enyimba, are now top of the Glo Premier League, otherwise
known as the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The
People's Elephant climbed to the summit after scraping to a 1 – 0 win over
Kaduna United in Aba on Sunday thanks to a late strike from Super Eagles
striker, Ifeanyi Ede, who came on as a first half substitute for Emeka Nwanna.
The
Aba club now have 42 points, same as Kano Pillars in second place. But Enyimba
lead the standings on superior goal difference over the Kano club.
It
is the first time this season that the six-time Nigerian champions are top of
the NPFL standings.
Kano
Pillars drop to second spot after staying top for 10 straight matchdays since
June 5.
But
the Kano club have a game in hand against Akwa United.
Christian
Josiah's headed goals on 21 and 36 minutes gave Sunshine Stars a two-goal lead
against Kano Pillars in Akure before Shehu Adamu halved the lead. But it proved
little to keep Pillars at the top.
Sharks
dumped Lobi Stars to bottom spot when their captain Odinga Odinga popped up to
score a late winner after Terkaa Melai in goal for Lobi put in a massive shift
on the day.
Kwara
United got a goal through Sidi Lawal in the last 10 minutes but could not avoid
a 1 – 2 loss at Nasarawa United.
ABS
and Wikki Tourists cancelled out themselves in a 2 – 2 draw at the Kwara State
Stadium in Ilorin. The result leaves both teams in the bottom four.
Bright
Ejike's spot kick in the last 20 minutes for Heartland helped them defeat a
plucky Dolphins.
The
Owerri club are now out of the bottom four but the dogfight is still on for
them.
Enugu
Rangers could only muster just a goal through Christian Obiozor to down Gombe
United.
In
Yenagoa, a first half strike from Tunde Adeboye proved enough for Nembe City to
edge Warri Wolves. Oghenekaro Etebo missed a glorious chance that could have at
least sealed a point for Wolves late on.
The
Akwa United and El-Kanemi Warriors contest at the Uyo Township Stadium ended 1 –
1.
Ezekiel
Mba scored inside the opening 10 minutes for Akwa United and just before the
half hour mark, Raphael Boumsong netted the leveller for the Warriors to share
the points.
On
Saturday, 3SC downed Bayelsa United 2 – 0 in Ibadan. The Oluyole Warriors got
their goals from Kingsley Eduwo and Osaguona Ighodaro.
