3SC continue strong start in NNL

Former Nigerian champions, 3SC, kept up pace at the summit of the National League by defeating City Of David (COD) United [pictured] 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday.

The Ibadan club opened score in the sixth minute through Bobby Clement before Tosin John levelled things for the White Lions inside the opening 10 minutes.

But it was Samuel Akinbinu's late goal in the first half that proved to be the winner for 3SC as COD United finished the game with 10 players after Rafiu Monsuru was sent off.

The Oluyole Warriors have now taken four points out of a maximum six in Division B since the start of the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Franklin Howard's men began the season with a 1-1 draw at Remo Stars last weekend.

Kwara United also notched up their first win of the season against a plucky Kogi United.

The Afonja Warriors were made to work for their 2-1 win as Kogi United went in front through former ABS man, Abdulkadir Aminu in the 21st minute.

Two minutes later, Samuel Adegbenro equalised and Lateef Adigun converted from the spot on 70 minutes to give Kwara United the full points.

In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists ran out two-nil winners over Niger Tornadoes to maintain a 100 percent start to the season after being awarded three points and three goals from their opening day game at Jigawa Golden Stars.

Ibrahim Babale and Idris Mohammed got the goals for the Tourists to go top of Division A of the NNL.

Bendel Insurance suffered their first loss of the season when they lost 1-2 to Prime FC.

Prime FC went into a two-goal lead through Waheed Olapade and Ifeanyi Emmanuel before Arewa Akeem halved the deficit for Insurance with less than 15 minutes to play.

For the second successive match day, Stationery Stores fought back to secure a point from losing position.

This time Jejelola Rilwan made sure Stores shared the spoils against Gateway United in a 1-1 draw in Abeokuta after their opening day draw with Abia Comets at the Onikan Stadium.
