No Pirates move for Uzoenyi

South African club, Orlando Pirates, have declared that they are not close to signing Nigeria attacking winger, Ejike Uzoenyi (pictured) as widely reported.

According to the communications manager of Orlando Pirates, Mickey Modisane, there has been no offer from the Buccaneers to the Nigerian player.

It was believed that Orlando Pirates had offered Uzoenyi a two-year contract.

“No, it’s not true that we have tabled an offer for the Nigerian player. We don’t have any new players in the team,” Modisane told Soccerladuma.co.za.

But Uzoenyi is still in South Africa after he did not return to Nigeria with the Super Eagles contingent last Sunday.

However, new reports have emerged of Mamelodi Sundowns showing interest in the winger.

The release of midfielder Jabulani Shongwe to Bidvest Wits by Sundowns have further fuelled speculations that a space may have been freed up to snap up Uzoenyi.

Uzoenyi was named Most Valuable Player of the 2014 African Nations Championship (Chan) in South Africa after scoring thrice for the Super Eagles and winning three man-of-the-match awards.
