Giwa FC, Nembe City thrown out of NPFL

The League Management Company (LMC) has announced that Giwa FC and Nembe City will not take part in the 2013/14 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The decision taken on Thursday by the LMC was due to the failure of the two clubs to "substantially comply with the minimum registraton requirements" for this season scheduled to kick off this weekend.

According to the LMC Chief Operating Officer (COO), Salihu Abubakar, the other 18 clubs met the substantial minimum requirement and have been provisionally licensed to take part in this season's Glo Premier League.

Abubakar added that the fixtures involving Giwa FC and Nembe City have been struck off from this season's calendar of the NPFL.

“Since the deadline for submission of registration form closed 48 hours ago, we have been scrutinizing the registration materials returned by the clubs and can now state that Nembe City and Giwa FC are in substantial default of the minimum requirements to participate in the Glo Premier League this season. They have consequently been withdrawn from the fixture and all matches involving both Clubs are cancelled," Abubakar said.

It now means the Enugu Rangers versus Nembe City match billed to open the season this Friday will no longer hold.

naijaligue.blogspot.com's investigation however led to uncovering that Giwa FC, one of the newly promoted clubs, were thrown out of the league for failing to meet the N150,000 ($930) minimum wage.

The club have offered their players monthly wage of N70,000 (around $430) which is N30,000 (around $200) less than the previous minimum wage of N100,000 (around $625).

Nembe City, on the other hand, did not show any attempt to meet the substantial minimum requirement in the areas of their players' medicals.

City were said to have also unilaterally picked a stadium not inspected by the LMC for their home ground, it was learned.

The LMC has insisted that the registration requirement are based on the licensing principles that promotes the development of the league for the benefit of the clubs.

“This is the first step towards bringing our clubs to meet the conditions prescribed in the Nigeria Football Federation Club Licensing Regulation which recently came into force," the statement from the management company further read.
