Papa Idris out of FC Taraba clash

Gombe United centre-back, Papa Idris (pictured), has been ruled out of their Glo Premier League match against FC Taraba this Sunday.

Assistant coach of Gombe United, David Gideon, disclosed that the defender is nursing a knee injury that left him on the bench last weekend when they lost to Enyimba in Aba.

Gideon acknowledged that Idris' absence will be felt in the heart of Gombe United's defence but believes it will afford other players opportunity to prove themselves.

"Papa is not part of the team for Sunday's match against FC Taraba because of a knee injury. He is without doubt one of our key players this season and it's unfortunate we won't have him for this match. But this presents other squad members with a chance to play also. Hopefully we should have Papa back in the team by the time the second round starts," Gideon, who has been acting as head coach of Gombe United in the absence of Maurice Cooreman, told Naijaligue.blogspot.com.

Gideon also took time to assure Gombe United faithful that the Savannah Scorpions will end their seven-match winless streak at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi when they play hosts to FC Taraba.

"I am worried we haven't won a (league) game in a while. But I am confident we have a very strong group this time and it is good we have been scoring goals. The game against FC Taraba offers us the chance to halt the poor run we've experienced lately," the Gombe United assistant coach said.

Gombe United last won a match in the Glo Premier League on May 8, 2014 when they thrashed Nembe City 6-0 at the Pantami Stadium.
