Kano Pillars are weighing up their chance of going three points clear of the chasing pack in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this Saturday when they play hosts to Dolphins in a rescheduled match.
The Kano Pillars - Dolphins match is one of the two matches in the double-header scheduled to take place at the Kano Pillars Stadium on Saturday. El-Kanemi Warriors will face Enugu Rangers in the other game.
Kano Pillars striker, Gambo Mohammed (pictured), believes the game against Dolphins presents them the opportunity to finish the first round on a high.
"It's a good chance for us to win another match. But Dolphins won't be easy to play. We are confident and want to win every game as they come including this one," Gambo said to Naijaligue.blogspot.com.
Kano Pillars head coach, Okey Emordi, is cautious and has refused to dismiss Dolphins before a ball is kicked.
He made it clear that there are no more easy games and also played down their recent 4-1 win over Sharks, who are city rivals of Dolphins, as a psychological edge.
"Football always presents you with different matches and different match situations. Sharks are different from Dolphins and Dolphins are different from Sharks. If football is played that way I don't think Dolphins will need to turn up at all. But as a team we are prepared for this match and want to win," Emordi told Naijaligue.blogspot.com.
Kano Pillars are currently on a 10-match unbeaten run and are also top of the Nigerian top flight with 31 points, same as second-placed Nasarawa United, but have a superior goal difference.
On Sunday, Bayelsa United will play hosts to Giwa FC at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City to round off the first round of the NPFL.
