Lobi Sets Pace, As Glo League Goes On Break

Makurdi-based outfit, Lobi Stars, seems to be getting the jig-saw to the Globacom Premier League right in this season’s campaign after going into the one-month break as the pacesetter on the log of the league.
Stars went atop the Premier League log after dispatching Enugu Rangers by 2-1 at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi on Sunday.
Former Ocean Boys’ skipper, Blessing Okardi and goalkeeper John Ga’adi accounted for Lobi Stars’ goals before Kola Adekunle grabbed the Flying Antelopes consolation in the 66th minute of the encounter.
Lobi Stars enters the break tied on nine points and with same goals’ difference with five-time champion, Enyimba of Aba.
But the actors at Lobi Stars are cautious about counting their eggs before they hatch with consideration to the side’s poor form in last season’s campaign.
Chief executive officer of the club, Dominic Iorfa, offered that it is still early to determine where the league trophy would be heading at the end of the current campaign.
“It is good for us that we are on top now and staying in touch with the other clubs. This is something we failed to do last season when we experienced a bad start. But we are not carried away by our position because we know that after the break ends next month when the Under-17 World Cup would have been concluded, all the other teams will be facing the league squarely,” Iorfa, a board member in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), told Naijaligue.blogspot.com.
Player-coach of the side, Garba Lawal, told Naijaligue.blogspot.com that he has featured just once for the club and cannot comment on the current form of the team.
The former Super Eagles’ midfielder disclosed that he has been saddled with a role in the hosting of the Under-17 World Cup and would return to the club in November after the world championship.
