Flying Antelopes Aims For Champion’s Scalp

As the Globacom Premier League resumes on Wednesday after a three-week break necessitated by the just-concluded FIFA Under-17 World Cup, Enugu Rangers would play host to the biggest encounter of Week Six when it faces titleholder, Bayelsa United.
The Flying Antelopes as Enugu Rangers is also known would be playing its sixth game of the campaign while Bayelsa United would be featuring in its fourth match.
Though the venue for this encounter is yet to be confirmed with the Abakaliki Stadium looking most likely as the ground for the match, Bayelsa United’s credential as champion of the Globacom Premier League would be put under massive test considering the departure of some of its key players this season.
Technical adviser of Bayelsa United, Meikeme Fekete, is optimistic that in spite of departures such as Chibuzor Okonkwo, Jonah Abutu and Emma Nwachi, the club is ready for Rangers.
“We still have a lot of our players with us. For our game against Rangers we are sure of doing well,” he simply told Naijaligue.blogspot.com.
However, the Bayelsa United official did not make any statement as to players present in camp and the crisis between the club’s established players and the management ahead of Wednesday’s game.
Head coach of Enugu Rangers, Alphonsus Dike, knows that winning against the champion would put his side in a comfortable position on the Premier League log ahead of this weekend’s visit to Ocean Boys.
Dike told Naijaligue.blogspot.com that the three-week break had given him ample time to work with his players ahead of Wednesday’s game.
“We have had quite a time to prepare outside the normal off-season and I have had the chance to look at the players and now we will have to put to good use what we have been doing in training for the past two or three weeks. We will have to start winning our games starting with the match against Bayelsa United because we will have a difficult game when we visit Ocean Boys this weekend,” Dike explained.
