Zamfara Utd Player Dies In Sleep

Tragedy once again struck Nigerian football, as a player of Premier League club, Zamfara United, was confirmed dead late Sunday night in Gusau in his sleep.
The player identified as Kayode Irekperu was left behind by the coaching crew for the visit to Dolphin Football Club after he complained of suffering symptoms of malaria.
The 23-year-old Irekperu had gone to the  Federal Medical Centre in Gusau on same Sunday for treatment while his team-mates engaged Dolphin FC in Port Harcourt.
General Manager of the club, Shehu Gusau, confirmed to KickOffNigeria.com that the player died in his sleep after he had received treatment at the hospital.
"He came back from church on Sunday morning and complained that he was not feeling well.
"Our team doctor had travelled to Port Harcourt with the rest of the team, so he went to the Federal Medical Centre, where he was seen and given a prescription for malaria.
"He came back, took his medication and lay down, but never woke up," Gusau said. "I had never even met him before as he has not played any game for us."
Irekperu’s remains was buried on Monday evening according to Islamic rites.
