The Premier League matches for Week 29 earlier scheduled to hold for this Saturday and Sunday have been moved forward by the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).
According to a statement made available to Naijaligue.blogspot.com by the Premier League’s media office, the matches billed to hold this weekend had to be shifted for the states finals of the Federation Cup (also known as the FA Cup) to hold in 36 centres across the country.
New dates of April 24 and 25 have been picked for the matches excluding teams on continental competitions.
Four matches would hold on April 24 involving Niger Tornadoes and Dolphin in Minna, Gombe United versus Wikki Tourist in Gombe while Sharks Football Club and Kaduna United play in Port Harcourt , and Kwara United plays host to Ocean Boys at the Ilorin Township Stadium.
The NPL’s amended calendar fixed three games for April 25. Six clubs would play on that Sunday and they include Kano Pillars, Bayelsa United, Enugu Rangers, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Zamfara United and Lobi Stars.
However, Head of Competitions in the NPL, Tunji Babalola, explained to our correspondent that matches involving Enyimba, Warri Wolves and Heartland FC had to be moved to April 29 since the three sides would be involved in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup on April 24 and 25.
“The matches of Heartland, Enyimba and Warri Wolves have been moved to April 29 to allow them play in the African club competitions,” Babalola said.
The development means that Ranch Bees would wait four days later to play host to the Peoples Elephant just as Warri Wolves and Heartland would play host to Gateway Football Club and Sunshine Stars respectively on same April 29.
