Akpokona Goes Pale On Another Wolves’ Draw

Head coach of Warri Wolves, Lawrence Akpokona, looked wooden after his side failed to kill off Enugu Rangers last Sunday in a Premier League match at the Warri City Stadium.
The coach looked distraught after watching his side fritter away the chance of climbing into the top four and closing the gap to six points on league leader, Kano Pillars.
It would be recalled that Warri Wolves played out a 1 – 1 draw with Enugu Rangers despite dominating the game for longer spells.
Wolves had got off to a flying start inside the first quarter of the game through Efe Yarhere’s strike on 14 minutes but failed to convert other goal-scoring chances.
But with 17 minutes left to play for, Flying Antelopes’ substitute, Musa Najare, poked home the equaliser to silence the Warri Wolves’ fans.
Several attempts by the home side to restore its lead failed, as Enugu Rangers held on for a share of the points.
Attempts to speak to Akpokona after the draw did not work out, as the former Enugu Rangers’ coach facing his old side for the second time this season appeared lost for words.
Captain of the side, Goodluck Onamado, was equally disappointed with the outcome of the result and accepted that he and his colleagues should claim responsibility for failing to beat Rangers.
“It is painful that we drew with Rangers when we are supposed to have won. We know that this kind of result will not make the coach happy because he made it clear to us that we needed to win this game so that we can have a good chance of being in contention for the league trophy. We also know that our fans are not happy too.
“But we will have to do well in our next game (against Gateway Football Club) because we have no excuse to give to the coach and especially the fans. But we cannot hide the fact that we have left so many people including our coach disappointed, as he believed that we would win (against Rangers) after playing 2 – 2 against Bayelsa United (last Thursday) in Yenagoa,” Onamado said to Naijaligue.blogspot.com.
