Former Nigeria Premier League champion, Kano Pillars, will set the tone for the second day of the ongoing Super Four in Ijebu Ode when it confronts Sunshine Stars of Akure, from 3pm tomorrow.
Kano Pillars started off the Super Four competition on a goalless draw no thanks to its profligacy in front of goal as well as the goalkeeping heroics of Kwara United goalkeeper, Kazeem Yekeen, on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Sunshine Stars in spite of adopting a different approach from its usual bulldozing style of football fell to six-time Premier League champion, Enyimba, via a 32nd minute striker by Atanda Sakibu.
The last time both sides met was last season in the Premier League and the setting was the Akure Township Stadium, where Sunshine Stars won by 2 – 1 with goals from Ganiyu Anifowoshe and goalkeeper John Gaadi while Solomon Okpako scored Pillars’ goal.
But the Kano side had won the first meeting of last season on January 27 when Ahmed Musa’s lone strike on 52 minutes secured all points in that clash.
Unfortunately, Pillars will be without Musa and Okpako, who are away with the Under-20 team to play in the African Youth Championship (AYC) qualifier in Conakry , Guinea .
Kano Pillars, however, does not look like a side that misses two of its key players, as the likes of Moses Ogaga, Thompson Joseph, Mohammed Gambo, Musa Musa, Isa Shariff and Rabiu Ali.
Shehu Shagari is ruled out of this game after he was sent off on Wednesday’s game for a second ‘bookable’ offence.
The second game of the day will be between Enyimba and Kwara United, which will witness coach Kadiri Ikhana going face-to-face with another former club after the opening day clash with Kano Pillars.
