Itodo, Showemimo eye more honours in NPL

The duo of Cletus Itodo and Abdulwasiu Showemimo of Sunshine Stars and Kano Pillars respectively has declared that they have set their sights on putting up more Team of the Week performances in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).
Itodo, one of the goalscorers for Sunshine Stars last Sunday in their 2 – 1 win over champions, Enyimba, expressed excitement about being named in the Team of the Week by NPL’s award panelists.
But the defensive midfielder knows that the honour of being named in the Team of the Week after Day Two of the Premier League calls for hard work.
“I am happy with this recognition coming my way. But success always comes with more work and that is what I will do so that I will continually be named in more Teams of the Week in the league,” he said.
Showemimo, 22, was taken aback by the honour from the Premier League.
But the Kano Pillars’ centre-back said he is prepared to put in his best week in, week out in the top-flight of the Nigerian league.
“I wasn’t expecting this (Team of the Week mention). But it is good that people are now watching us in the league and recognise the little things we have been doing for our clubs.
“I believe that this Team of the Week honour will only put me on my toes to work hard every week for my team in the league,” said Showemimo.
