Nigeria wrap up for Week 10

Only EIGHT games were played at the weekend in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) following two postponements. Our predictor scored another SIX correct results with TWO exact scorelines.

Bukola Babes 1 Warri Wolves 0
Winger Otu-Bassey Effiom was the hero for Bukola Babes in their 1 – 0 shock win over title-chasing Warri Wolves. Even our predictor did not envisage Wolves dropping any point at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi – the temporary home ground of Bukola Babes – on Saturday. The loss leaves Wolves four points behind leaders, Dolphins, but in third place.
Prediction: 1 – 2

Dolphins 1 Heartland 0
Stanley Eguma’s men continued their winning run in the Premier League campaign with another 1 – 0 win and this time over Heartland. In Week 9, Dolphins got their second win on the road at Crown FC. Dolphins remain top following Uche Oguchi’s long range goal against Heartland, who stay out of the top half of the league.
Prediction: 1 – 0

Kano Pillars 1 Enugu Rangers 0
As usual the Flying Antelopes went on the road, were seen and were conquered without scoring a goal. Gambo Muhammed’s strike from the spot on 39 minutes was enough to see Kano Pillars hang on to a win that ensured that they climbed into the top four with a game at hand while Enugu Rangers are now six points behind the leaders. Prediction: 2 – 0

Shooting Stars 2 Niger Tornadoes 1
This game became the first in over a decade in the topflight to be played under floodlight. But straight off Shooting Stars shot into the lead through ex-under17 star, Karim Shuaibu in the first half before Akindele Toluwase got the second late on in the game. Darlington Ihejiene’s 92nd minute goal for Tornadoes came too little, too late.
Prediction: 1 – 0

Zamfara United 0 Kaduna United 1
Kaduna United showed no sign of missing their top scorer, Jude Aneke, as Siman Yusuf ensured that Maurice Cooreman’s side joined the list of teams that have won on the road in the ongoing season. Zamfara United drop into the relegation zone while Kaduna United are eighth on the log after their lone goal triumph in Kano on Sunday.
Prediction: 1 – 1

Sunshine Stars 1 Kwara United 0
The Stars began this game like a whirlwind ready to blow off Kwara United and it paid off with David Eboh’s third minute strike. But it did not turn out to be rout as anticipated in spite of Ganiyu Anifowoshe getting the marching orders for a second bookable offence. Sunshine Stars continue their chase on Dolphins at the top of the log by closing the gap to two points.
Prediction: 2 – 1

Ocean Boys 2 Crown FC 0
It was spot on for our predictor, as Ocean Boys’ duo of Felix Benjamin and Ayo Saka got the goals while goalkeeper Femi Thomas failed to make it three from the spot late in the game. But it was Saka’s goal from the centre of the pitch that remains the talking point of Ocean Boys’ win that lifts them out of relegation for the first time in six weeks.
Prediction: 2 – 0

Enyimba 2 Gombe United 0
For the first time at home, the champions, Enyimba, scored two goals. Chidozie Johnson and Junior Osagie got the goals either side of the half. But the champions are still six points off the leaders and are still far from their commanding selves.
Prediction: 1 – 0
