Attacking midfielder, Ayo Saka, appears to have earned himself what could turn out to be goal of the season following his stunning strike for Ocean Boys in a Week 10 game against Crown Football Club on Saturday.
Felix Benjamin had put Ocean Boys in front after 24 minutes but it was Saka's goal that stood out as the talking point from Saturday's games.
The fringe Nigerian men's national team midfielder turned around with the ball in the centre of the field at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa and lobbed Crown's goalkeeper, Ayobami Ojo, who was out of his goal area.
Saka's 34th minute strike from the centre of the pitch left Ojo embarrassed and gave the former champions a two-nil advantage.
The goal definitely will take its spot as contender for goal of the season in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).
Saka, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, told SuperSport.com that he saw goalie Ojo off his line and opted to take the chance rather than play the ball with his teammates.
"I'm happy that I scored that goal (from the centre of the pitch) because I had the option of passing. But I saw the Crown goalkeeper out of his goal and decided to try from the centre and fortunately I scored," said Saka excitedly.
Ocean Boys should have made it three-nil on 89 minutes but goalkeeper Femi Thomas failed to convert a chance from the spot.
Few kilometres from Yenagoa, Dolphins continued their winning form against Heartland with a 30-yard strike from Uche Oguchi.
Dolphins' lone goal victory meant Stanley Eguma's men go four points clear at the top until Gombe United, Kwara United and Sunshine Stars play on Sunday.
Warri Wolves failed to close the gap on Dolphins after their 0-1 loss to newcomers, Bukola Babes, following a 48th minute goal from winger Otu-Bassey Effiom at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
Paul Aigbogun's men remain second with 17 points until Sunday.
Kano Pillars moved into fourth place until Sunday's games after their one-nil triumph over Enugu Rangers via Gambo Muhammed's goal on 39 minutes.
