Nigeria Premier League in numbers

It is 15 rounds of games to go in the Nigeria Premier League this term, and the race for the title looks like a two-team fight.
At the other, the battle for survival revolves around four teams including two rival clubs, Juth and Plateau United. SuperSport.com looks at a few recent statistics that have made this season in the Nigerian topflight interesting.

50 – Total number of points garnered by league leaders, Dolphins, so far this season after round of 23 games. There are still 45 points to play by the leaders after taking 50 from 69 points so far.

38 – Plateau United have conceded more goals than any other Premier League side. They conceded 30 on the road and eight at home.

30 – Akure club, Sunshine Stars, have scored more goals than every other side. The title-chasers scored 25 at home and five on the road to hit the 30-goal mark.

13 – If the league were to be judged by the last five rounds of games, Kano Pillars would have been crowned winners after amassing 13 points after four wins and a draw. Sunshine Stars will end in second with 12 points while Dolphins will be third with 10 points.

11 – Surprisingly, Niger Tornadoes, who are in the lower half of the table, have scored 11 goals in their away games. It is the highest number of goals scored on the road this season by any team in the league so far. Dolphins come close with 10.

10 – Two men, Ajani Ibrahim of Sunshine Stars and Kabiru Sanusi, are tied on 10 goals as top goal scorers so far this term after 23 games in the topflight. The two players are eight goals away from equalling Ahmed Musa's 18-goal record of last campaign.

4 – Kano Pillars are the most in-form team at the moment. They have the longest winning streak in the league after four wins on the bounce against Kwara United (2 – 1), Bukola Babes (1 – 0), Kaduna United (2 – 0) and Zamfara United (3 – 0).

3 – In the last round of three games, Enugu Rangers have the longest run of having no wins. The Flying Antelopes have lost to Ocean Boys (0 – 1), drew with leaders, Dolphins (2 – 2) and lost to Lobi Stars (0 – 1). Alphonsus Dike’s men last won in the league on May 11 when they demolished Juth by 4 – 0.

2 – Kwara United are the only side in the topflight at the moment that have suffered back to back losses in the last two rounds of matches. Kadiri Ikhana’s boys have lost to Kaduna United (0 – 3) and Kano Pillars (1 – 2).

1 – Lobi Stars, Heartland, 3SC and Zamfara United are four sides in the league that have managed just one point each on the road in the ongoing season as the table stands.

0 – In 990 minutes of home games at the Enyimba Sports Complex in Aba, titleholders and two-time Orange Caf Champions League winners, Enyimba, are yet to concede any goal this season. On the other hand, 2006 champions, Ocean Boys, remain the only side in the topflight this term yet to pick a point in an away match after 11 games on the road.
