Wafu blunder costs Dolphins’ keeper

The Wafu Nations Cup howler of Dolphins’ number one, Sunday Rotimi, has robbed him of a chance to be named in a 24-man team for the international friendly game against Argentina and the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.
SuperSport.com was told by a key backroom staff of Nigeria’s Super Eagles that head coach, Samson Siasia, had initially planned to name Rotimi in the side for the June double header.
But the schoolboy error by Rotimi especially in the final of the Wafu Nations Cup that led to Togo edging Nigeria by 2 – 3 at the MKO Abiola International in Abeokuta put paid to that plan.
“Siasia had put Rotimi in his plan for the games as one of the three goalkeepers. But that performance he put up in the final made nonsense of his chances and so he had to leave him out for the time being. We could have been talking of having three players from the local league in that team now,” the team official revealed.
The official revealed that Rotimi will still get another look in but Siasia left him out of the June games since it would be difficult to defend the display of the Dolphins’ shot-stopper in the Wafu Nations Cup final.
The Nigerian selectors instead opted to pick Vincent Enyeama, Bamidele Aiyenugba and Austin Ejide as the three keepers for the games against Argentina on June 1 in Abuja and Ethiopia on June 5 in Addis Ababa.
