Antalyaspor keen on Plateau’s Akpabio

Turkish Super Lig side, Antalyaspor, are back in the hunt for Plateau United’s top scorer in this season’s Nigeria Premier League (NPL), George Akpabio.

Representatives of Antalyaspor have spoken to the Plateau United marksman on a possible move in spite of the summer transfer window having closed on September 5 in that country, Naijaligue.blogspot.com has been informed.

The Scorpions are said to be willing to take the teenage striker on a long-term deal.

Akpabio will travel to Antalya to try out at the club for a few days and could sign a pre-contract before the transfer window opens in January 2012 when he will officially become a first-team player.

“Yes the deadline has closed but Antalyaspor still want him. Their plan for him is in the long term future. He will come (to Turkey) as soon as possible. If they like him he will sign and stay there and acclimatise until the winter. After the winter he can play in the first team.

“He is only 18 years, he has to be treated well and they want to take care of him and give him time to be established in Turkish football. You know the Turkish league is stronger than that of Norway, Denmark or Russia. It is one of the best leagues in Europe and ranked among the top six leagues,” a representative of Antalyaspor told Naijaligue.blogspot.com.

The 18-year-old forward tried out with Norwegian sides, Lillestrom and Viking but the deal fell through.

But he could leave the shores of the country in a matter of days for Turkey once he secures a travelling visa.

Akpabio has scored 14 league goals for Plateau United in this term’s NPL after he was graduated into the first team from the youth side.
