Kaduna Utd face Interclube test

Nigeria cup holders, Kaduna United will be up for a massive test when they confront GD Interclube of Angola this Sunday in a Caf Confederation Cup Group A game.

In the reverse fixture of this preliminary stage of Africa’s second tier club competition between Kaduna United and GD Interclube, it ended 1 – 1 at the Kaduna Township Stadium on July 16.

Kaduna United go into this game needing to win or avoid defeat to give themselves a realistic chance of reaching the semifinals.

It will be a big test for Maurice Cooreman’s men at the Estadio Ombaka in Angola, where Interclube have been invincible in the Angolan top flight and Caf Confederation Cup this year.

But Cooreman is optimistic that his side could pull off a big result in Luanda on Sunday in spite of being regarded as upstarts in Caf’s second tier club competition.

The Belgian head coach of Kaduna United also said his side are motivated by the Super Eagles win on the road at Madagascar in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations last Sunday.

“They are the group leaders and will be a difficult team. But we are up to the task and we will want to emulate the Nigerian Super Eagles by winning away like they did against Madagascar,” said the former Ocean Boys and Enyimba manager.

In their last five games in all competitions, Kaduna United have won twice, drew twice and lost once while GD Interclube have won four in their last five matches.

Kaduna United are currently occupying third position in their group with five points from four matches behind GD Interclube and Club Africain of Tunisia.
