Ajani out to kill off Dolphins

Sunshine Stars’ top scorer this term, Ibrahim Ajani (pictured) believes he can play a huge part in seeing off the title challenge of Dolphins.

The Akure Gunners play host to Dolphins in a top-of-the-table game at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode on Sunday.

Both sides are tied on 64 points on the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) standings but Sunshine Stars edge it on superior goals' difference.

Ajani is confident that Sunshine Stars will open a three-point lead on Dolphins at the end of Match Day 35.

"All of us at Sunshine Stars are ready for this game. It won't be easy because Dolphins are also aiming to win the league trophy. But I am very confident that we will beat them on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode.

"I am confident because this season in the league we have not drawn or lost at home. In spite of losing at home in the Confederation Cup recently (to Club Africain of Tunisia), this is one game we can't afford to draw or lose," Ajani said.

The former Enyimba attacking midfielder acknowledged that Stanley Eguma's side are tough and will not be treated with kid's glove.

Sunshine Stars' 0-1 loss in Port Harcourt earlier in the season is still fresh in the mind of Ajani.

"Dolphins are not an easy team to play against. In the first game (this season), they defeated us and we want to win this one because it is important (for our title ambition)," said Ajani.

Ajani has scored 16 goals for Sunshine Stars this season and is two goals short of equalling Ahmed Musa's 18-goal mark.
