Wolves target big striker signing

Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side, Warri Wolves are prepared to bolster their squad by signing a striker ahead of the coming season, SuperSport.com has been informed.

A top official of the club disclosed that two strikers have been identified by the team’s head coach, Paul Aigbogun as his main targets for the 2011/2012 season.

Warri Wolves are also considering bringing in a forward after qualifying to play in the 2012 Caf Confederation Cup by virtue of their third place finish in the Premier League last season.

Also, the departure of Ekigho Ehiosun and Oke Akpoveta to European clubs has necessitated the move to strengthen the attacking line of the side.

However, the official who prefers to remain unnamed told SuperSport.com that the identities of the players cannot be revealed since Warri Wolves are yet to open talks with one of their two main targets.

But the official hinted that one of their targets is currently with the Nigerian Under23s in Morocco for the Caf championship while the other is on the payroll of one of the relegated sides.

“Our coach, Paul Aigbogun has pencilled down two strikers as his major targets for the coming season but he wants to sign just one of them before the start of the new season. Also since we are playing in the (Caf) Confederation Cup there is need to add a good striker to the team after two of our best strikers left for clubs abroad.

“The two strikers played in the league last season. Right now one of them is with the Under23 national team while the other played for one of the relegated clubs. "But that’s the much I can reveal to you because these players are not contracted to us neither have we started talks with them yet. They are the coach’s target and hopefully one of them could join us before the start of next year,” the official said.
