Wolves snaps up ex-Enyimba skipper


Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side, Warri Wolves have signed former Enyimba captain, Chiedozie Johnson (pictured above) for the 2011/2012 season scheduled to kick off this Saturday.

A statement from the Warri-based club to Naijaligue.blogspot.com revealed that Johnson was signed alongside five other players to strengthen the side for the league and Caf Confederation Cup campaigns.

The five others are John Agbawu (from Enyimba), Ikechukwu Gabriel (from Kano Pillars), Amutu Austin (from Mighty Jets) and Okikimusanpa Felix Onomuefe, who is unattached.

“In its bid to present a team that will not only compete for the 2011/12 Nigeria Premier League title but excel in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup competition, Warri Wolves Football Club of Warri have secured the services of former Enyimba captain, Chiedozie Johnson; former Enyimba defender, John Agbawu; Kano Pillars central defender, Ikechukwu Gabriel; former Mighty Jets of Jos attacker Amutu Austin and Okikimusanpa Felix Onomuefe unattached,” the statement from the NPL side on Thursday read.

This development means that Warri Wolves will have 33 playing personnel after 27 players, who competed in last season’s campaign, were retained.

Among players retained for the new season are goalkeepers Chigozie Agbim, Ambrose Vanzekin, Phillip Emmanuel and Tejiri Rhiogbere.

Defenders are Ike ThankGod, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Ojo Mine, Uche Ossai, Goodluck Onamado, Nnedum Francis, Bright Akpojuvwevwo, Ogaga Aniwhi, Malian import Adama Coulibaly, and Nelson Onyekachi.

Others include Gift Atiluwa, Ebuka Okafor, Michael Egbeta, Amanze Elekwuachi, Michael Okoyoh, Sunday Mba Sunday, Ifeanyi Okoye, Bright Obada, Efe Yarhere, Samson Kpenosen, Oghogho Oduokpe and Solomon Oboh

Ex-junior international, Omonigho Temile is expected to join up with the Warri Wolves’ squad for the new season after returning from a loan spell abroad.
