Cup produces last 8


After Matchday Three of the 2012 Federation Cup across four centres in Nigeria, eight clubs have emerged for the quarterfinals.

The teams to play in the quarterfinals are Cup holders, Heartland, Lobi Stars, Crown FC, Kano Pillars, Sharks, Prime FC, Plateau United and back-to-back losing finalists in the last two editions, Enyimba.


Group A
Three teams - Enyimba, Lobi Stars and Samba FC - turned up for the group games while Warri Wolves pulled out citing security concerns in Bauchi.

Samba lost their two games while Jonah Abutu's strike on Day Three of the competition ensured Lobi finished top on six points - three ahead of the People's Elephant.

Group B
In Lagos, the two teams that reached the last eight had to wait till Day Three. Kwara United were already out before their last game while the trio of Kano Pillars, Crown FC and El-Kanemi battled for the two spots.

Goals from Nasiru Ali and Reuben Gabriel made sure Kano Pillars ended El-Kanemi's Cup dreams while amateur outfit, Crown FC just edged Kwara United 3-2 to claim the second quarterfinal spot in this group.

Group C
Nigeria Premier League (NPL) table-toppers, Enugu Rangers and Dynamite Force were already out. But Rangers got a goal win over the non-league side to finish third.

Sharks and Prime FC played for top spot and shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw in which Gomo Onduku scored for the Blue Angels and Akor Issah levelled things. Underdogs, Prime FC, won the group on seven points and stay in Ibadan. Sharks finish second on five points.

Group D
Heartland finished top of the group on five points after a 0-0 draw with Gombe United on Friday. Plateau United surprisingly got the second spot after beating 2-0 Nasarawa United.
