Bayelsa Utd lose second game

Bayelsa United continued their poor form at the Glo Premier League Pre-season Tournament by losing 1-2 to Kano Pillars in Abuja on Sunday.

Bayelsa United head coach, Ladan Bosso (pictured), made 11 changes to his start list that lost 0-3 to Enyimba on Day One.

But that brought no change in United's play as Kano Pillars went into the lead in the 12th minute through Bello Kofarmata's well dispatched spot kick.

Pillars dominated throughout the first half and deservedly got a second goal on the half hour mark after Japhet Opubo's save ricocheted off Ezekiel Mbah and back into the net.

Bosso's men put up an improved performance in the business end of the game but Pillars goalkeeper, Theophilus Afelokhai was always on hand to foil them.

On 58 minutes, Bayelsa United pulled one back from Ifeanyi Chukwudi's Panenka-like penalty after Tiongoh Tongara was upended in the Pillars' goal area a minute earlier.

In attempt to salvage a point, Bosso sent on Sheriff Bashir, Azubuike Okechukwu and Ebitimi Agogu but Pillars held their nerves for the full points.

Bayelsa United have no points after two matches and are now out of reckoning in winning the tournament. Kano Pillars are third but joint on three points with second-placed Warri Wolves.

Day Three of the Glo Premier League Pre-season Tournament continues on Tuesday with two more matches.
