Edo, others to miss Bayelsa Utd tie

by Humphrey Njoku

Glo Premier League side, Akwa United will miss the services of three key players in the crunch duel at south-south neighbours, Bayelsa United.

The Promise Keeepers will be the guests of Bayelsa United in Wednesday's Glo Premier League match day 14 clash at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Akwa United leading scorer and defender, Nnamso Edo (pictured) is ruled out with sore toe picked in the game at Dolphins in Port Harcourt, while the duo attacking midfielder, Aniefiok Godspower and central defender, Hamza Ikenna Onwuemenyi are nursing varying degree of injuries.

The side's gaffer, Patrick Udoh said though his side will sorely miss the trio but will fight hard to earn a decent result against the Restoration Boys in Benin.

"Three of our key players won't feature against Bayelsa United due to injury namely leading scorer, Nnamso Edo, Aniefiok Godspower and Hamza Ikenna Onwuemenyi.

"We'll sorely miss their services though we've worked hard to put in place quality replacements.

"We're going out there in Benin to get a win, to get something positive the venue itself gives us equal opportunity to fight for decent result.

"The past two matches have not been good picking one point out of six, we can't avoid to lose further points as it'll drag us down the log," Udoh said to supersport.com.

However, Udoh said the poor motivation of the players is a disadvantage to the side's spirited fight to reclaim the league summit.

"The non-payment of salaries and match bonuses of the players have dampened their confidence and morale.

"We've been patient all this time without our remuneration but the patient has been overstretched.

"The players have been living on hope which has almost ran out and the management needs to urgently step into matter before things get out of hand.

"The side need incentives and proper motivation to urgently fight themselves back to reckoning," Udoh said.

The Uyo-based side are fourth on the 20-team elite league log on 19 points from a possible 39.
