NSC To Intervene In NPL Election Crisis

The National Sports Commission (NSC) could wade into the crisis stalling elections into office of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) after the tenure of the last board ran out last month.
Newly-appointed chairman of the sports commission, Isa Ibrahim Bio, who is regarded as the country’s sports minister, learnt, has ordered to be given a full briefing on the goings on concerning the NPL Election, which has failed to hold due to court cases instigated by the duo of Dr. Sam Sam Jaja and Ray Nnaji.
Though Nnaji’s case has been thrown out of court that of Dr. Jaja is still existent, and the minister wants a total dossier on the development before he steps in.
Bio, who was formerly of the Ministry of Transportation, had told a cross-section of journalists in Abuja in his first interview that his mission was to rid the sports commission of undisciplined acts.
He also berated those who have dragged football matters to ordinary courts of law when in actual fact are aware of stipulated guidelines of the NPL Election and FIFA’s stand against going to normal courts to solve football matters.
In spite of an impending court case involving Dr. Jaja against the NPL, our source revealed that the minister might summon for a closed-door meeting with stakeholders of the Premier League to resolve the impasse.
However, no date has been slated for the parley, according to a staff inside the sports ministry.
