The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided to put on hold the commencement of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) scheduled to begin on September 25, Naijaligue.blogspot.com can reveal.
Rising from its inaugural meeting on Thursday, the football federation announced through one of its board members, Chris Green, that the proposed kick date for the NPL is no longer viable.
It explained that the suspension of the top-flight is to allow the Nigerian FA resolve outstanding issues concerning the Premier League.
Green stated that the NFF wants to resolve the relegation dispute involving Bayelsa United, Sharks Football Club and Wikki Tourists.
Also, the country’s football house is expected to look into the troubled NPL chairmanship now occupied by Davidson Owumi and disputed by Bayelsa United chairman, Victor Baribote Rumson.
